Well, I lost a pound this week! My goal was to lose 2
pounds, but I ended up having a little bit of a cheat day since we had a
babysitter we went to our favorite restaurant the other day for greasy
cheeseburgers, then we went to my grandparent’s for dinner and my grandma made
me a massive strawberry shortcake and I would have felt bad if I didn’t eat it.
So I think that day definitely messed up with my 2 pound goal.
I figured it would be good to post about how I ended up weighing way more than I should be. I mean besides gaining 50 pounds with my pregnancy, that’s so much! When my husband and I met nearly 5 years ago we weren’t in the best shape, but we were in pretty good shape. Then we turned into complete foodies, especially once we moved in together. We were always cooking and baking. You always hear people talk about using food as a way to cheer themselves up, well it’s so much worse for us. We use food to cheer us up when we have a bad day, we use it to celebrate the good, we eat when we’re bored, heck we plan our vacations around food and the restaurants we want to visit. We really have no control when it comes to healthy eating and we’ve both gained so much weight from it.

A picture of our first Christmas together, I don't even recognize those people anymore!
This is another picture of what I looked like the month I started dating my husband (obviously October) This is my skinny inspiration picture, I still have those jeans in case a miracle happens. Right now, I'm pretty close to 40 pounds bigger than I was here.
One of the big things that jumps out at me and makes me want to lose weight is
how I look in pictures. Not so much the strike-a-pose kind of pictures, but the
ones that I find myself in the background of. Blissfully unaware that someone
is taking my picture until it ends up on Facebook, bad posture, bad angle,
crazy weird expression on my face. That’s when I step back and really realize
that I need to lose weight, and wonder what in the heck that person was doing
posting that picture on Facebook!
This picture isn't exactly what I'm talking about, but it highlights my, alright let's be blunt...this picture highlights how fat I am. My arms are huge, I look so wide, my hand is on my stomach maybe highlighting the fact that I do indeed look like I'm still pregnant, and I don't know what in the heck is up with my poodle hair here.
So now I need to get serious about my goals. I have to show some more control when it comes to eating, I’ve been doing decent, but it’s way too easy to slip-up (like my greasy cheeseburger, strawberry shortcake day). It’s tough to find a place to work out in winter since everything is ice and freezing cold, and an expensive gym membership (or home equipment) are so not in our budget. I still have to work on finding ways to get at least a good 30 minutes workout in 3 times a week. I’ve been doing ok just by using my Kinect for Xbox, I feel like it’s not the same workout I’d get at a gym, but it works in a bind.
This week I have to start being serious about my eating, no more junk food, no going out to eat or getting take out. I will eat a light breakfast and lunch and use portion control at dinner. I will work out 3 times this week no matter what. I have to get on track, I want to get under 200 pounds, and never ever see that number on the scale again. I can do this!
I'm using this post for our Getting Fit Friday Link up!

Good luck, girl! I'm working on the losing weight thing, too. :)
ReplyDeleteWe use Your Shape Fitness Evolved on Xbox Kinect! Love it :)
ReplyDeleteAny exercise you squeeze into the day is good! Don't be too hard on yourself, you have a great plan and will meet all your goals in due time!
I am right there with you sister! Last year I did so good! I feel like I'm on the rollercoaster from hell lol! We can do this!!!!
ReplyDeleteYou are so pretty! And one lb is good, at least it's a loss! :) I slacked off a lot this week. Boo. Joining you guys for the link up since I host a friday fitness link up too! :)
ReplyDeleteHey, a pound is a pound! Celebrate any victory, no matter how small. I'm in the process of losing weight too. I'm about 20 pounds heavier than I was when I met my husband. And I have a stack of "skinny clothes" I'd like to fit back into. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteIt is a day by day journey, you are doing so wonderful!
ReplyDeleteYou have to start somewhere! I really recommend the Fat 2 Fit podcast - they haven't put out any new episodes in ages, but they had over 140 episodes so there's plenty to listen to.
ReplyDeleteAs hard as it can be to work out at home, it's always an option. I love my Kinect - I actually got a bit sore playing Kinect Sports, and I have Your Shape: Fitness Evolved, The Biggest Loser Ultimate Workout (borrowed from my friend), and a couple dancing games (dancing is exercise too!). I'd love to get Zumba and Nike's new workout game.
If you like apps - Nike Training Club is awesome. Lots of workouts you can do, all organized into routines. They'll go from 15 minutes to 45 minutes. Plus, it's FREE! And the more you do it, the more achievements you unlock, and we all know how geeks feel about unlocking achievements...
There's also a free Nike Running app - it'll track how far you go and the time you spend doing it, and it'll compare it to your previous history.
(both of these are for iOS, BTW - don't know if they come in an Android version)
If you ever want any help or advice, let me know! I've been working on my own fat-loss journey (because the measuring tape is far more accurate than the scale, and while my weight's stayed the same, I lost 6% body fat recently). I've got all sorts of knowledge I've picked up. In fact, I have a blog feature where I review apps - I'm tempted to do one on just fitness apps now!
Thank you for all the advice! I'm actually thinking about buying the Nike+ game! I just downloaded the apps, they were available for Android too.
DeleteYour honesty will be your biggest strength. You know what you want to do and why, just keep reminding yourself. We have such a food culture so it's hard to stick with your plan when you're in a social setting, but it'll get easier. Just keep at it. Eventually even grandma will understand without being offended!
