The secret to the best pie crust

Serves: 2 pie crusts
Ingredients
  • 2½ cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup chilled butter
  • ½ cup lard
  • ½ cup cold water
Instructions
  1. In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Use a pastry blender to cut in cold chunks of butter and lard until mixture resembles cornmeal, alternatively you could pulse all of this together in a food processor.
  2. Stir in water gradually, keep stirring until mixture forms a ball. Split dough in half and shape into two balls.
  3. Cover bowl in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least an hour.
  4. Roll dough on a floured surface with a floured rolling pin. Make sure you roll it out evenly and large enough to overlap into your pie plate.
  5. Place bottom crust in pie plate, press dough evenly into the sides and bottom of pan, fill pie with filling and place second crust on top.
  6. Bake according to pie recipe or filling instructions.
